Obiko Art Wear Project: Celebration and Fundraiser
From 1980 to 1997, I staged the fashion shows for Obiko. Many of those shows were video taped and some of those video tapes will be housed in the
archive of the Textile Arts Council Library at the M. H. de Young Museum in San Francisco; the videos will
be available for research. The archive documents the work of designers collaborating
with Sandra Sakata at her art-to-wear boutique, Obiko, in San Francisco.
Last year, on Saturday, September 21, 2013, the Textile Arts Council (TAC) held a launch party and fundraiser for the Obiko Art Wear Project. The event revisited the Obiko era
with projected fashion show videos, artist images, and informal modeling of
fashion from this extraordinary creative movement.
The fashion videos presented during the launch party were some of the tapes of those fashion shows I produced and now in the TAC archive. The event was held at the Joe Goode Dance Group space, Project Artaud, 401 Alabama St. San Francisco.
