Karyn Yandow ~ In the Realm of the Senses opening

The latest exhibition at the Gray Loft Gallery, Karyn Yandow ~ In the Realm of the Senses, opened tonight. The solo exhibition features the photographic images of Karyn Yandow. The show is part of the SF Bay Month of Photography event (link below).

September 14 - 29, 2018
"Karyn’s sublime and surreal images use nature as a metaphor to explore human spirituality and connectedness. Her hauntingly beautiful photographs weave a common thread throughout her imagery that reflects on the poignant meditative beauty of spirituality, loss, fragility and hope that reaches beyond the eyes and into the soul.  She seeks out sensuous and ephemeral botanical imagery that is a symbol for the transcendent and intimate moments in our lives."
~ Jan Watten - Gray Loft Gallery

Yandow has exhibited her photography in San Francisco and the Bay Area for over 25 years at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Berkeley Art Center, Gray Loft Gallery, Gallery Route One, FalkirkCultural Center, CIIS, Sebastopol Center for the Arts, Bolinas Art Museum, Sanchez Art Center, and the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel.

Gray Loft Gallery is very pleased to present Seeing Red, a photography exhibit that explores and celebrates the color red.  A variety of photographic techniques inspired by the color red will be on view, including mixed media, alternative process and traditional color photographic processes.  Red is associated with passion and drama, with strong emotions such as love and anger, and can be stimulating, vibrant and exciting.  In Chinese culture red represents luck and prosperity.  Lovers of red are passionate with an enthusiasm for life – which is exemplified in this visually vibrant exhibit.

The exhibit was selected by Ann M. Jastrab, an independent curator, photography consultant, editor, and writer.

ABOUT  GRAY  LOFT  GALLERY

Gray Loft Gallery - voted "Best Art Gallery" in the 2016 Oakland Magazine Award - has promoted the rich art culture of Jingletown and the greater Bay Area since 2012. The gallery has been referred to as a hidden gem in Jingletown, and noted by Kenneth Baker, former SF Chronicle Art Critic, in his Visual Arts Don’t Miss Column as “…A space gaining prominence in the Bay Area…”   The mission of the gallery is to provide exhibition opportunities for artists in a setting that is an alternative to the traditional gallery model. We hope to inspire, engage and celebrate artists in our community and beyond.  We acknowledge the achievements of emerging, mid-career and established artists – with an emphasis on those who live and work in the Bay Area – in a non-traditional art space. A number of artists began their art career at Gray Loft Gallery.

“I have always enjoyed this gallery, superb atmosphere and lighting. The polished and worn hardwood floors creek slightly in places as you climb to the third floor, providing a granular and unique, organic aesthetic. This is a do-not-miss venue in the East Bay.”  –  Facebook Review

The Gray Loft Gallery has done it again ~ One + One opening

April 8 to May 21, 2012

One + One opened tonight at the Gray Loft Gallery and once again, Jan Watten has scored a bull's-eye! The work is dazzling, varied and as brilliantly assembled as only Watten can do it. The photos give a hint of the wonders on display. This also is my maiden voyage as far as shooting with my new #iPhone camera.
