Jingletown Originals ~ Otta here like a bat out of Hell

 ~
Suzanne Olivia Davis ~ Bat Out of Hell

The exhibition, Jingletown Originals, at the Gray Loft Gallery in Oakland, closed last night and it went out in GRAND style!

As it will be All Hallows' Eve tomorrow, costumes befitting the bewitching occasion were encouraged and some people went whole hog at it.

The dazzling event was beautifully catered by Isaac Amala with the help of his friend, artist turned sous chef, Abel Soto Díaz.

As I left the celebration, the dancing started and when I got to my studio below, I could feel the building shaking from the thunderous sound of stomping feet and booming music! It was a helluva way to end The Jingletown Originals!

Things are a mess in our country, so, Minoo Hamzavi is doing something about it; she's attempting to get people energized to vote! What could be better?

She and her team have set up the set for The Vote (link below), which will be her interactive "happening" at the Gray Loft Gallery this weekend on Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 3 to 5 PM.

Although the Plein Air Ensemble, Claire Lavery (flute), Kristin Brooks Davidman (flute) and Donna Wiley (bassoon) will perform, this is not just a performance! The writings of Patrick Dwyer will be read and I am falling back on my 60 plus years of theater experience to design a "soundscape" befitting the theme of the event.

Voting encompasses more than just the act of voting. Besides the politics: greed, graft, avarice, backbiting and just plain lying and cheating, there is religion. There is race: whites, blacks, indigenous Americans, Asians, etc. Then there is the horror of war and destruction. But there are many who hope for peace. All those issues are presented in an array of humor and fun.

Follow Gray Loft Gallery on Instagram to see the live feed of The Vote on Saturday, September 17. They will go live when the performance starts at approximately 4:00 pm.

Find out exactly WHAT the "interactive" is. Those arriving early and those arriving late can join in the festivities. Refreshments will be served. Come one, come all and play along with the gang. You just might have a good time.

Minoo Hamzavi ~ Setting up The Vote

 ~

Minoo Hamzavi is concerned about the state of things in our country, so, she is taking a page from the 1960's Fluxus movement to do something about it to get people energized to vote.

She and her team are playing with and enjoying setting up the set for The Vote (link below), her interactive "happening" at the Gray Loft Gallery this weekend on Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 3 to 5 PM.

As with the 1970's and 80's Pearl Harbor Day events (link below) organized by Phillip Hofstetter and his wife, Nina Horn, there were "sneak attacks"; The Vote may be "dive-bombed" by artists and guests who attend. Most of that action will occur midway through the event, mas o menos 4 PM, so that those arriving early and those arriving late can share the festivities. Come and play along with the gang. You might have fun.
