All my life I have considered the first of June as the beginning of summer. Meteorological sources say the summer starts on the first of June in the Northern hemisphere while it marks the beginning of winter in Southern hemisphere. It is always with a feeling of joy that I meet it. Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians said it nicely almost 80 years ago (link below).
The four seasons have been in use since at least Roman times, as in Rerum rusticarum of Varro who says that spring, summer, autumn, and winter start on the 23rd
day of the sun's passage through Aquarius, Taurus, Leo, and Scorpio,
respectively. Nine years before he wrote, Julius Caesar
had reformed the calendar, so Varro was able to assign the dates of
February 7, May 9, August 11, and November 10 to the start of spring,
summer, autumn, and winter.
Meteorological seasons are reckoned by temperature, with summer being
the hottest quarter of the year and winter the coldest quarter of the
year. In 1780 the Societas Meteorologica Palatina (which became defunct
in 1795), an early international organization for meteorology, defined
seasons as groupings of three whole months as identified by the
Gregorian calendar. Ever since, professional meteorologists all over the
world have used this definition.
To
me the first day of summer represents a brand new and hearty cycle of
living! That includes running-with-blood beef dished up with a healthy
glob of mashed potatoes!

Auld Lang Syne has been recorded a gazillion times by many artists ranging from the traditional version by Guy Lombardo to a punk rock version in 1980 by the English group The Boys who recorded it under the name, The Yobs (link below).
They start the song out pretty straight but it's like they just can't get it
right until the fourth try and by then it is pretty raucous, with
chimes, even!!!

In many countries, New Year's Eve is celebrated at evening parties, where many people dance, eat, drink, and watch or light fireworks. Some Christians attend a watchnight service. The celebrations generally go on past midnight into New Year's Day, 1 January.
The Line Islands (part of Kiribati) and Tonga, are examples of the first places to welcome the New Year, while Baker Island (an uninhabited atoll part of the United States Minor Outlying Islands) and American Samoa are among the last.
Music associated with New Year's Eve comes in both classical and popular genres, and there are Christmas songs that focus on the arrival of a new year during the Christmas and holiday season (link below), such as the afore mentioned Auld Lang Syne which was written by Scottish poet and lyricist, Robert Burns.

Allez-Vous-En is one of dozens of songs by Kay Starr that I loved listening to in the mid fifties. It was written by Cole Porter and was published in 1953. The phrase Allez-vous-en is a French phrase meaning Go away directed to one or more persons with whom one is not familiar. Its more familiar translation is va t´en. The phrases are formed using the reflexive conjugated form of the verb aller which means to go, and the object pronoun en.

The song was featured in the original production of the musical Can-Can when it was introduced by the French actress Lilo who was born in 1921. Her married name was Lilo Jourdan de la Passardière. Gordon Jenkins, Nelson Riddle and Bing Crosby covered the song but Starr's version was the biggest hit. Ferrante & Teicher did an instrumental version of the song as well.

The recording was released by Capitol Records as catalog number 2464. It first reached the Billboard magazine Best Seller chart on June 27, 1953, and lasted 9 weeks on the chart, peaking at #13.

The "B" side of the 45 has the song Half a Photograph which was a waltz. I loved it even more than the "A" side.
