On TV 25 ~ LGBTQ, The Supreme Court & Neil Gorsuch

~

Yesterday, June 15, 2020, was a momentous and surprising day in many ways not just for the LGBTQ community but for everyone in the US. In a six to three decision the Supreme Court of the United States ruled LGBTQ employees cannot be fired for sexual orientation or gender identity. The wild card in the drama was Neil Gorsuch. It was the lead topic for all the television networks.

An enormous surprise was Justice Neil Gorsuch, President Trump's first appointee to the court, voting in and writing the majority opinion for Chief Justice John Roberts, Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. His vote will place him in history books!

Neil Gorsuch - majority opinion

It completely changed my opinion of him; I realized he will not be the lap dog for Trump, following his every whim or dictate. It is an indication that Gorsuch, who is by any definition a conservative judge and has cast key votes in the past siding with the President, is capable of flexing his independence, charting a distinctive course and disrupting expectations. However, I have no doubt it will infuriate many who pushed for his confirmation.

The three dissents were absolutely no surprise, Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas who brought up the issue of the second amendment which had nothing to do with this case and, of course, Brett Kavanough.

The dissenting opinion by the most conservative justice on the Court, Samuel Alito, was not in the least way surprising but it was shocking in this enlightened time!

Neil Gorsuch - BRAVO!
