Today the Rhythmix Cultural Works and the West Alameda Business Association presented a three hour event: Radical Beauty Part 2, featuring art installations in empty store front spaces by Ginny Parsons, ghostghostteeth, and Chris Rummell & Dickson Schneider.

The event featured live music and dance performances from Gamelan Sekar Jaya, Maze Daiko and the San Francisco Epiphany Dance Theater; all held in multiple locations. I was only able to hit two of the locations.

The Gamelan Sekar Jaya is a Balinese gamelan ensemble founded in 1979 by I Wayan Suweca, Rachel Ann Cooper and Michael Tenzer; it is located in the San Francisco Bay Area and has been called "the finest Balinese gamelan ensemble outside of Indonesia" by the Indonesia Tempo Magazine.

The Epiphany Dance Theater serves a wide range of students, engaging youth of all socio-economic backgrounds, as well as collegiate and professional dancers. It provides educational programs that employ interdisciplinary performance arts as tools for learning, inquiry, skill building, community engagement and cultural collaborations.

The art installation I managed to check out was, Nature Trash Kites, it consists of kites designed from what would normally be trash made by Ginny Parsons and students from her art camp.

The Gamelan Sekar Jaya and the Epiphany Dance Theater was the second event I managed to see. I had seen the two perform together a couple of years ago during the 2016 Island City Waterways event and  had been greatly entertained as well as informed (link below). They will be repriseing the event on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 & 20, 2018 (link below).
