This article is ONLY about the album cover for the The Andromeda Strain soundtrack, part of my series, “Just the cover, ma’am!” (link below); there is another entry for complete info about the album (link below). The album has the
usual 12" square profile but the housing attached to the front of the cover holds the vinyl LP record, which has its own surprise, and is designed like the shutter of a camera. I don't know of another album with this configuration.

The jacket cover is by graphic designer, Virginia Clark, with assistance by sculptor, Joel Shapiro. Clark designed the album cover for Black Mass by Lucifer (Mort Garson) as well as Big Black, Cher, Neil Diamond, Yvonne Elliman, Rick Nelson, Saddhu Brand, Sony & Cher, Roger Williams and many others (link below). The collage photography is by Ruth Corbett. The jacket cover was printed by Bert-Co Enterprises.

I love the hexagon shape of the 10" vinyl LP record; I think it's totally cool. The plastic record sleeve has a label with a warning to the owner to beware of damage to the needle if not played properly.
