And, of course, there to greet all the arriving guests with delicious treats galore, many home made, was Rhythmix director, Janet Koike.
The Christian Schiess sculptures
Christian Schiess was recently awarded a 2018
Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. The Pollock-Krasner Foundation’s
mission is to monetarily aid international individuals of recognized
artistic merit, who have worked as professional artists over a
significant period of time. The Foundation awards these grants annually
to visual artists who are painters or sculptors. This is the second time
Christian has been awarded this grant as a sculptor from the
foundation. His work on display explores the interface between
technology and nature that is revealed through prosthetic repairs to a
damaged environment.

The Norman Moore sculptures (Fragments)
Norman Moore has recently been recommended for a
Physical Public Art Award from the City of Alameda’s Art Commission to
place two large columns in the entrance to Jean Sweeney Open Space Park.
The surfaces of the columns will be rendered in mosaic and represent
the ocean as the gateway to California. Norman’s previous commissions
include a mosaic installation at the Prince Street Station of the New
York City Subway System and a collaborative commission with Nancy Mizuno
Elliott at the Castro Valley Library in California. Illustrations about
the commission and wall hanging mosaics will be on display.
