Elvira M. Hodovan obit

Elvira "Vee" Milana Sestili Hodovan of Mansfield, born in Lorain, Ohio on November 20, 1927, passed away on September 5, 2010, surrounded by her family, at her home on the Mount Hope River. She follows her beloved husband, Stephen Francis Hodovan, and her cherished son, Stephen Christopher Hodovan.          

Vee was a member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church Parish in Ashford, Connecticut, since she and Steve moved to their home on the river in 1952. She was a respected registered nurse and practiced for over 40 years in the greater Mansfield area. She also spent 3 months as a volunteer at Mission House, Port au Prince, Haiti, after retirement in 1993.       

She is survived by her remaining children and their families, Francine Hodovan (links below) of Mansfield Center, Connecticut, Carol Hodovan Sexton, her husband, Ronald Sexton, and their sons Stephen Lawrence Sexton and Patrick Lee Sexton of West Hartford, Connecticut; Stephanie Hodovan Trudeau and her husband, Dennis Trudeau, of West Palm Beach, Florida; Debra Hodovan and her children, Naima Floribunda Kennedy, Naima's son, Damien Kennedy and Naima's husband, Jesse Poole-Van Swol, and David Kennedy of Tampa Bay, Florida; Eugenie Hodovan Shea and her husband, Tom Shea of Austin, Texas; and Barbara Hodovan and her children, Alexis Milana Elmore and Nathan Hodovan Elmore of Berkeley, California.

Francine Jay Hodovan obit

Francine Jay Hodovan, 62, of Ashford, passed away on August 9, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital.  She was born in Windham, Connecticut, and moved to California after completing high school. She obtained her BA in French from Sonoma State University and afterwards had a long career in Financial Planning.       

Francine enjoyed traveling and traveled extensively throughout India and Nepal. She traveled to Europe frequently and lived in Rome, Italy, first for two years, working at the USO and later for three years, obtaining her MBA in International Finance at St. John's University. She moved to Connecticut in 2007, eventually moving to Ashford where she made her home and had a big impact on the community.      

 Francine loved Ashford and was very involved in community organizations and events. Francine was active in the Willimantic-Storrs Branch of the AAUW where she served on the Executive Board and also served in the role of President. She was a Friend of the Babcock Library. Before she was a member, Francine volunteered at the Ashford Senior Center helping to serve meals and put on events. As a member, she taught mah jong and played regularly. Francine was also involved with the Storrs Senior Center and was a member of the Jewelry Club.      

Francine loved her heritage and was an active member of The Hungarian Social Club and regularly did baking for their events. Francine was a member of the Ashford 300th Committee and the Ashford Our Town, Our Future Committee. Francine was the impetus for, and a founding member of the Ashford Arts Council.      

She was also passionate about environmental preservation and involved in the anti-fracking movement. Francine was a shining star in the community and will be sorely missed. Francine was predeceased by her father, Stephen; her mother, Elvira (links below); and her brother, Stephen. She is survived by her sisters: Barbara Hodovan of Berkeley, California; Carol Sexton of West Hartford, Connecticut; Debra Hodovan of Clearwater, Florida; Eugenie Shea of Austin, Texas and Stephanie Trudeau of West Palm Beach, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews and a community that considered her family.
