On January 5, 1975, The Wiz opened on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre. The show would open at the Broadway Theatre two years later on May 25, 1977.
Stephanie Mills performed in the role of Dorothy and the show made her a star. One of the songs in the show, Home, later became a Number 1 U.S. R&B hit and was her signature song.
