Winter Solstice Sunset - December 21, 2019, 5 PM

The cold is coming and it will get colder.
The season is the darkest time of year.
Creatures that can, will shut down all they are able
to ride out the inhospitable season.
Others will hide what they have hoarded and set about a defended,
and cocooned existence, with survival as the intention.
The hours of sunlight with its ability to melt away the woes are few.
The way of nature is to be dormant.
Before Saint Nick,
before the Virgin Birth,
before the Pagan ways,
it was even then cold and dark.
People came together and shared;
and so the tradition began.
My wish to you is from the very conception of the need,
to bring light to the darkest time of year.
There is more of a reason
than the commercial season
to put up twinkle lights.
We gather to make merry,
sharing food and drink.
We pay tribute.
We marvel the innocent experiencing wonder.
These things are not for folly, they are need.
And thus I plant this seed.
