The theater of the barrenderos reaches its peak in the night while the city sleeps (except for El Raval which never really sleeps).
The barrenderos emerge late in the evening and early morning to scour,
wash-down and make the streets sparkle in the light of the street lamps
with a beauty that is absolutely sublime.
Possibly the dirtiest place in Barcelona by the end of the day, Plaça Reial in the Barri Gòtic, gets a thorough going over to restore the order and beauty that has been demolished by the invasion of thousands of tourists. I had the fantastic fortune to live in the Plaça for a month in the apartment of a friend. It overlooked the square and it was an unforgettable experience. I am eternally in her debt.

The beautiful lighting of the streets seem to have been created by a stage lighting designer and it makes for very dramatic scenes.
