Gray Loft Gallery ~ Tracing Passages: art, fashion, music & wine

  ~
Ruth Boerefijn ~ All A round installation

This Saturday, September 23, 2023, the Gray Loft Gallery will open an exhibition with works by three Bay Area artists entitled, Tracing Passages.

Jingletown artist, Ruth Boerefijn creates fascinating fiber/mixed-media installations, many with circles, many not (image above).

Cuong Ta works in clay to form uniquely wild vessels that are more than they seem to be while still teaching math in Bay Area independent schools.

Tom White also comes from a teaching background, UC Berkeley and the California College of the Arts and Crafts. He is now making collage renderings called Drawn and Quartered from his previous work.

In October, Obiko (link below), Art-to-Wear designer Carol Lee Shanks will present her fashions at the Gray Loft Gallery with a sound design by yours truly.

Yesterday was the last day of the exhibition, Drawn, Quartered, Repurposed, that was showing at the Rhythmix Cultural Works in Alameda. It was a quiet ending but sales were made; after all, it's quality not quantity that counts.

Tom White has been working on a new series he has titled, Drawn & Quartered (link below) and which he showed during the run of the exhibition.

Ginny Parsons had invited White to show his work with hers; she presented her Bike series on one side of the gallery . . .

Tom White ~ Drawn & Quartered Summer Fireplace Screens

 ~
Tom White ~ Summer Fireplace Screen - 2022

Tom White has been working on a new series he has titled, Drawn & Quartered (link below). One part of this new series is what he calls, Summer Fireplace Screens. As they are composed of various materials, most of which are remnants of his previous work on paper ripped up, cut up and reassembled in new configurations, they can't be used in front of a roaring fire, thus, they are meant to be used in front of a fireplace not in use. More photos of these screens below.

There are several of these "fireplace screens" in an exhibition at the K Gallery in the Rhythmix Cultural Works in Alameda. The exhibition entitled, Drawn, Quartered, Repurposed, also features the work of Ginny Parsons, who gallery-sat last weekend (link below). This weekend, Saturday, October 15, 2022, from 1 to 3 PM, it will be Tom's turn to gallery-sit.

As with many of the new works that Tom White is doing, some of the fireplace screens are two-sided, a case in point are Self-Portrait and Greek Music Tempo 2007-2022, both below.

Drawn, Quartered, Repurposed is a two for one experience that makes for a pretty dynamic exhibition. Leave it to the Rhythmix Cultural Works to set up a doozy of a show like this!

So, remember, Tom will be at at the K Gallery, Saturday, October 15, from 1 to 3 PM.

Making palm leaf balls with Ginny Parsons @ the K Gallery

 ~

Yesterday, Saturday, while Ginny Parsons was hosting the Drawn, Quartered, Repurposed exhibition showing at the K Gallery, I made palm leaf balls. I had never made them before and discovered it can be a whole lot of fun. The fun came in the form of the people who were there making balls with me.

Drawn, Quartered, Repurposed at the K Gallery features the work of both Ginny Parsons and Tom White. White will take over next Saturday, the last weekend the exhibition is open: Saturday, October 15, from 1 to 3 PM.

Of course, the event wouldn't have been complete without Ginny having made a snack for everyone to enjoy; she made oatmeal/raisin cookies that were deVOON!

So, stop on by; you'll see some pretty interesting work! Tom White also has his work showing in the exhibition, Jingletown Originals (link below) at the Gray Loft Gallery across the chanel in Oakland.

Ginny Parsons will be hosting, once more for the last time, the Drawn, Quartered, Repurposed exhibition this Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 1 to 3 PM. Drawn, Quartered, Repurposed is showing at the K Gallery until October 28, 2022.

Last weekend while she was "in charge" of the gallery, we got a chance to visit. We had a GREAT time. My friend Pillow (link below) from Alaska was here as well as our friends, Betty Jo Costanzo and Patrick Dwyer from Seattle. BJ and Patrick came to see the Minoo Hamzavi event at the Gray Loft Gallery (link below). Both Minno and Jan Watten came as well. WHAT FUN we had!

Tom White will take over on the last weekend the exhibition is open: Saturday, October 15, from from 1 to 3 PM. Just like Ginny, he's more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

Drawn, Quartered, Repurposed features the imaginative and innovative work of Ginny Parsons and Tom White.
