The Orchard / Galleries on 25 ~ Simone Simon

I search for a way to visualize rapture.

Born in Panama and raised on the East Coast, Simone made her way to California to study at the San Francisco Art Institute, earning her BFA and MFA in Painting. In the 80s she helped launch ARE Gallery on Market Street in San Francisco.

Alongside her artistic practice, Simone has explored body movement and psychology - dancing, teaching yoga, and working as a clinical hypnotherapist.

About her work:
“I see paintings as arenas where light and gesture are gathered and stored… Shapes and symbols build over time - marching forward like characters, forming relationships and memories. I work until a presence can be felt, an energy that might be provoked or invited to take center stage on the canvas.”

Simone has been represented by Gray Loft Gallery for thirteen years and has exhibited widely in California and beyond. Her work is included in major corporate collections such as Oracle and Bank of America.

She lives and works in PetalumaCalifornia.

Gray Loft Gallery Uptown opening

  ~

Last night the GLG's new satellite venture took off in dramatic fashion.

The exterior is unassuming but WOW!

 Wait 'til you get inside!

Peter Dreyfus built a gallery space that is every gallery owner's dream! A ceiling hundreds of feet high (well, it's pretty high) and skylights that show the work in beautiful natural light so the color dazzles the eyes.

Working with Jan Watten of the Gray Loft Gallery, the two have assembled a stunning array of the work, old and brand new, of 12 present and past Jingletown artists. It's almost a retrospective with incite to the future.

Ginny Parsons in the Summer Salon @ the Gray Loft Gallery

  ~

Ginny Parsons - Cousins On Beach

Ginny Parsons is showing her latest work in the Gray Loft Gallery Summer Salon. Sometimes she uses some pretty off-the-wall material in it, literally; dirt, food, mustard, etc. In the last show I saw she used peanut butter! She also uses traditional medium, acrylic, oil, bees wax, etc. In this new work she uses powdered milk.

ABOUT  GRAY  LOFT  GALLERY
Gray Loft Gallery has promoted the rich art culture of Jingletown and the greater Bay Area for 11 years. The gallery has been referred to as a hidden gem in Jingletown, and noted by the late Kenneth Baker, former SF Chronicle Art Critic, in his Visual Arts Don’t Miss Column as “…A space gaining prominence in the Bay Area…”   The mission of the gallery is to provide exhibition opportunities for artists in a setting that is an alternative to the traditional gallery model. We hope to inspire, engage and celebrate artists in our community and beyond.  We acknowledge the achievements of emerging, mid-career and established artists – with an emphasis on those who live and work in the Bay Area – in a non-traditional art space. A number of artists began their art career at Gray Loft Gallery. “I have always enjoyed this gallery, superb atmosphere and lighting. The polished and worn hardwood floors creek slightly in places as you climb to the third floor, providing a granular and unique, organic aesthetic. This is a do-not-miss venue in the East Bay.”  –  Facebook ReviewGray Loft Gallery has received "Best Art Gallery" in the Oakland Magazine's Readers Choice Award in 2016, 2017, 2021 and voted one of five top art galleries in 2022.

GRAY LOFT GALLERYis a proud member of the Oakland Art Murmur andJingletown Arts and Business Association.Hours: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays by appointment2889 Ford Street, third floor, Oakland CA 94601Not wheelchair accessible.
