Jingletown Open Studios 2021 ~ The Gray Loft Gallery

 ~
Yesterday I spent the second and last day of the 2021 Jingletown Open Studios at The Gray Loft Gallery and the studio of Susan Matthews.

Dorie Meister

Jan Watten, an interanationally renown photographer, is owner/operator of the Gray Loft Gallery with a BFA in Photography from the California College of Arts and Crafts. She savors using outdated film camers such as the Holga and pinhole cameras.

Jenny Sampson

Photographer Jenny Sampson specializes in the wet plate Collodion Process to hand-make tintypes and traditional black and white photography.

Nicole White

Nicole White holds a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art, an MA in Art History from the University of Connecticut and an MFA in Studio from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has collaborated on the book, Rolls & Tubes: A History of Photography, with Jenny Sampson.

Jude Pittman

For this exhibition, Jude Pittman did her drawings by 'finger painting' on an iPad to create unusual effects for what she calls her "Imaginary Portraits".

Susan Tuttle

Susan Tuttle is a photographer, collage artist and jewelry designer. Her photographs have a sense of whimsy about them that is subtle but her collage work is outrageous; witness her cigar box with vintage bowling ball playing card below.

I left the Gray Loft and ran down stairs to the studio of Susan Matthews; she is the subject of the next article on the 2021 Jingletown Open Studios.

Gray Loft Gallery ~ Jingletown Open Studios 2021

 ~

Worried about getting presents in time for Christmas due to shipping delays? Your worries are over! Come to the Jingletown Open Studios tomorrow, Saturday, November 6th, and Sunday, November 7th. All your needs are there ready for the taking.

The event will have photography, encaustic, mosaic, papermaking, printmaking, mural, wearable fiber art, collage, hand wrought jewelry, art glass, prints, screen printing, spray paint, mixed media, fiber art, tapestries, weaving, assemblage, repurposed materials, watercolor, ceramics, charcoal and ink drawings, sculpture as well as pastel, gouache. oil, digital and acrylic painting, and many other wonderful items for sale.

Many of the artists will be there in person showing and selling their work which will give you the opportunity to meet them and discuss what and how they do it.

There are two venues in the Gray Loft Building at 2889 Ford Street, Oakland, 94601:

On the third floor in the Gray Loft Gallery, Susan E. Hillyard, Dorie Meister, Jude Pittman, Jenny Sampson, Susan Tuttle, Jan Watten and Nicole White will be there.

On the first floor, both Susan Matthews and Yusef SSali are showing in the same studio.

At the 2934 Ford Street Studios, which is handicap accessible, are Peter Dreyfuss, Lisa Levine, Vida Pavesich, Fernando Reyes, Randy Rocchi, Anastasia Schipani and Meghan Shimek. The Dreyfuss metal sculptures are amazing.

In the Jingletown Art Studios, 3001 Chapman St., Oakland, are Paul R Glaviano, Fernanda Martinez and Jill McLennan.

At the Norton Factory Studios, 3094 E. 10th Street, are Joe Gegan, Christopher Hendrix, Melissa Mohammadi, Michelle Hou, Leyla Rzayeva, Pat Wipf and Linda Yao.

So, now you don't have the problem of lack of items to find for those you love.

Jingletown is just off the 880 Nimitz Freeway; take the Fruitvale exit but turn right onto Derby Ave. which will lead you to all the galleries and studios.

Gray Loft Gallery ~ Exquisite Little Things closing

~

photos by Styrous®

When the closing of the exhibition, Exquisite Little Things, was postponed last weekend, it was moved to last night. The exhibition at the Gray Loft Gallery featured small works of art for sale by Jingletown and Oakland artists in time for the Christmas season. The closing had a great turn-out!
