And I Love Her!
I
don't think there has ever been a more beautiful love song ever
written. Well, maybe that's not true but it comes pretty close to my
feeling for this song.
It was released on July 20th
or 26th (I found date differences in my research) of 1964. I was in the
middle of an affair one only dreams of ever having (by those day's standards) and the song said
everything I was feeling at that time of my life.

"And I Love Her"
I give her all my love
That's all I do
And if you saw my love
You'd love her too
I love her
She gives me everything
And tenderly
The kiss my lover brings
She brings to me
And I love her
A love like ours
Could never die
As long as I
Have you near me
Bright are the stars that shine
Dark is the sky
I know this love of mine
Will never die
And I love her
Bright are the stars that shine
Dark is the sky
I know this love of mine
Will never die
And I love her

If I Fell holds a place in my heart as well as it reminded me that what the song was hoping, had come true for me at that time.
The
Ringo's Theme instrumental was a beautiful sonic break that blends the "
Dwayne Eddy" guitar work,
crescendo
of the staccto strings and the brass gently and makes you feel
just GOOD! Sure it is sappy now but back then it was heaven.
It's fun to watch the video (
link below) of
Can't Buy Me Love that was made during work on the
Rediffusion Television special in the UK,
Around The Beatles.
It took place while
The Beatles were also filming
A Hard Day’s Night,
which summed up the band’s lifestyle at this point. The
show’s title dictated the creative angle for the programme in that
The Beatles were filmed ‘
in the round’. The producer was 32-year–old Jack
Good, an innovator of TV pop shows for teenagers.
Not only was
Around The Beatles to be filmed in front of a live
audience, but the shoot would also be fairly complex, so it was decided
that the band would mime to tracks that had been pre-recorded at
IBC Studios in
London.
The
interesting part of the video is that not only were the Beatles wearing
suits and ties but the young guys in the audience were as well.

My, how times change!

Ringo Starr is credited for the title of the album because of a
malapropism. According to
Pitchfork's
Tom Ewing,
"The lack of rock and roll covers allows listeners to "take
the group's new sound purely on its own modernist terms", with audacious
"chord choices", powerful harmonies, "gleaming" guitar, and "Northern" harmonica."
