~
I just found out today is the 20th anniversary of
Wikipedia which was founded by
Jimmy Wales. This is a major event for me because, as you may have noticed, this platform is my main referral source for the
Viewfinder.
There has been nothing like
Wikipedia in the annals of mankind; it provides more knowledge and information than the richest kings and emperors in history have ever had to the everyday man. And knowledge can be power and wealth when used wisely!
People all over the world look to
Wikipedia around 21 billion times every month for information on everything from politics, to music, sports, and beyond. It now has 55 million articles across nearly 300 languages. If you ask
Siri,
Alexa or
Google Home a general-knowledge question, it will likely
pull the response from
Wikipedia.
The amazing thing is, it is manned completely by volunteers, everyday people like you and me; over 280,000 people edit
Wikipedia every month. Every article on Wikipedia, big or small, is a microcosm of human collaboration.
If you read or donate to
Wikipedia, you are part of a global movement of volunteers, projects, and campaigns contributing to free knowledge around the world. It is why I support it by donating to it.
I look forward to the next twenty years and beyond.
