Terry Riley: Encore @ the BAM with Tracy Silverman

~
I had the pleasure and honor, earlier this month, to photograph Terry Riley at the Berkeley Art Museum once again. I had photographed him in concert in November of 2009 (see: Terry Riley: Pipe Dreams @ the BAM/PFA).

Riley was joined by violinist Tracy Silverman who played an electric six-string violin for the concert. In May of this year Silverman performed the premiere of Riley’s, The Palmian Chord Ryddle, with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. Ryddle was written for Silverman by Riley.

At one point Silverman did a solo turn that was nothing short of astonishing. The audience was completely captivated.

The colorful Barry McGee exhibition currently on view at the museum until December made a fantastic backdrop for the concert.

Mr. Riley and Mr. Silverman made their bows after the concert . . .

. . . but this time around I had the presence of mind to bring two of Mr. Riley's albums with me for him to autograph, which he graciously did.

A great big thanks to Mr. Riley for making my day and to Mr. Silverman for the shimmering sonic icing on the cake.

And happy birthday to Tom
