Making Light in Tbilisi
is the first film by 16-year-old, Nilo Batle of San Francisco, CA. I'ts
a documentary about his family’s experience making art during Artisterium, an art biennial held in Tbilisi, Georgia.
The project focused on up-cycling disposable plastic containers. They
transformed trash into functional light fixtures with the help
of local students and artists. The film was screened at his high
school’s film festival.
He attends Ruth Asawa School of the Arts in the Media and Film Arts
department. He has been making films for less than a year. Batle says, "I have become so passionate about my
involvement in film that I have decided to peruse film making in
college."
Lydia Matthews and Laurie Lazer co-curated the exhibition. Matthews, is a Brooklyn-based critical writer, contemporary art curator,
educator and cultural activist who currently serves as Professor of
Visual Culture and Director of the Curatorial Design Research Lab at
Parsons The New School for Design. Lazer is co founder, director and curator of the Luggage Store Gallery.
